I guess we don't have to go the same way back that we came from. Take a detour to the east, and begin the journey around the everfree back to Hoofington. As you go along spend a moment to reflect on what has happened. Specifically, ask Windcaller more about the details of his first encounter in the ruins. Whatever it is, it didn't seem very hostile to us.

You cross the bridge back to the main land, and begin to circle around the ravine to the east.

On the way, you ask Windcaller if he remembers anything else from his last time here.

Windcaller: "Scarcely... I've already told you what I could."

You remark that whatever it was, that monster didn't try to attack the three of you.

Windcaller: "Perhaps not, but... I've heard stories about the ruins. They are believed to have been haunted by the spirit of Nightmare Moon after her banishment. It is said that ponies who visited the castle were split apart, and... one by one, consumed by the darkness.

I... thought those were mere legends, but now... I'm not so sure."

As you continue walking east to circumvent the forest, you come across a stream with no bridge in sight. The current appears to be strong, and headed toward the ravines.
