Especially if we don't have the full down payment, or if we'd be broke after that. (Don't let her know, if possible.) So... haggling is in order. A bit of negotiation, a bit of give and take, and let's keep this as monetary negotiations only...
[Haggling] You roll a 7 (required 9). Partial success.
You attempt to negotiate for a lower price, but Gerwalta seems far more interested in the shine of coins than in what you have to say. Growing more impatient by the second, she eventually cuts you off, and reiterates her offer.
Gerwalta: "Look. It's fifty bits up front, and that's final. Whether you stump up or gamble your necks on a cheaper sellspear is no feathers off my back. Just pick one, and don't waste my time.
You have until this afternoon to make up your mind. Got it?"
Not waiting for so much as a nod, the griffon spreads her wings, and blasts off beyond the mist above.
Moonflower: "Whoa, harsh! Do you really wanna bring her along? She's kinda mean."
Furia Storm: "If that scorpion from yesterday is anything to go by, you ponies are going to need all the help you can get."
While your party discusses the positives and negatives of hiring a mercenary, you seize the opportunity to make yet another stop at the Trading Post headquarters, this time to get some of your items appraised in case you need more bits.
Following a kind worker's directions, you soon find your way to an appraiser's counter, who then takes a look at your inventory.
Appraiser: "Mhm. We'll buy it even if it's used, but we better not catch you fencing."

None of this loot looks as expendable as we would like, look to other options.
Having Gerwalta along would be quite an asset, given her combat skills and having a second flier along too. Her help is costly, but I think it's more important to have extra help than not. So... maybe some side work, if we can manage it quickly. I think someone else mentioned the potion researcher needing supplies, and there's likely some other work we can manage today.
We can't pawn our stuff! Let's take a moment to discuss with the group here, maybe if we raise the amount of loot Gerwalta gets, she'd be more interested in coming along?
