- Can Luna relate to our feelings about being a new alicorn/possibly a prince? [...]
- We should ask Luna/Moonflower if they're close, especially since Moonflower's parents are so far away. [...]
- Knowing Honourshine, she definitely has some burning question about historical minutiae that only Princess Luna would know the answer to. [...]
- So Luna doesn't know much about "alicorn magic", right?
Still, you decide to voice your concerns about your purpose as an alicorn. Being born an Earth Pony to uncertain parents, and having become an alicorn after wishing for it upon a star, you feel as though your horn and wings may not have truly been earned.
Luna: "Do you believe horns and wings should be earned?"
You tell the princess that you figured becoming an alicorn was not unlike earning a cutie mark; that it would come with an epiphany, and provide a sense of belonging.
Luna: "And what of those, such as I, who were born alicorns?"
You... admit that you don't have the answer to that.
Luna: "Then allow me to share mine with you: When my sister and I were young, we were crowned Princesses of Equestria. At the time, neither of us had our cutie mark. Yet, we had been chosen to help unite the pony tribes, for as alicorns, we alone could represent all three.
It was only later that we discovered our special talents; thanks to our alicorn magic, we were able to assume the duties of raising the sun and moon, and become their guardians. But up until then, both our alicorn statuses, and our royal crowns, had been gifts.
Alas, I was young and foolish then, and thought otherwise: I was convinced that all I had and more were my birthright. That very thought led me down a dark path of arrogance and jealousy. Can you tell what it was that I failed to understand?"
You take a moment to reflect upon this, and figure that a younger Luna may have taken her gifts for granted. You ponder if, perhaps, you did not become an alicorn because you earned it; rather, you are meant to earn it now by making good use of it. The princess nods in approval.
Luna: "That would be wise. What you are capable of is important, but it is what you choose to do that matters the most."
You thank Princess Luna for her advice, then turn to Moonflower who you realize has not spoken yet. You recall the princess calling the bat pony her pupil, and ask if they know each other well.
Moonflower: "Yuh uh! We meet in the dream realm at night, and she teaches me how to use my powers better. We already talk a lot, so now's your turn! Heehee..."
You nod gratefully, and ask Honourshine if she has any questions for the princess while she has the chance. Your foalhood friend hesitates, then shakes her head.
Honourshine: "... None the College hasn't already asked, I'm sure."
Luna: "The College of Equestrian History, I presume? Much has happened in the past millennia, and I have enjoyed reading about it. Are you a member?"
Honourshine: "Contractor... I'm interested in learning about the history of the world we live in, not about the minute details of a few ponies' lives."
Princess Luna gives an amused smile at that, and nods.
Luna: "History quickly fades into legend or obscurity, depending on whom it pleases. Yours is a noble cause, and I hope to hear of your findings."
You grin at the timid historian, and sensing no forthcoming reply, you decide to fill the coming silence with another question of your own: Seeing as it will be of importance to your quest in the dream realm, you ask the Princess if there is anything she can tell you about alicorn magic.
Luna: "Nothing more than Twilight Sparkle could. You have spoken to her, have you not?"
You recognize that you have, but were simply wondering if she had something to add.
Luna: "What you seek is a spell, and I do not know it. To you and I, alicorn magic is no different from regular unicorn magic. It may be special in its own way — more powerful, perhaps —, but it does not command magic differently. It is still something you must study and learn to control, as I have."
You nod, and say that you will try to be patient.

- Any opinions on how to handle diplomacy with the Kirin, and if our alicornhood will be a factor?
- It's a bit early to ask this but… are we immortal? I guess we won't know for sure for awhile…
- If we need to talk to the Princesses for advice, we'd just use normal channels, right?
- There's so much to admire about the sublime night and dreams. Would Luna like an appreciative nuzzle?
But yeah, I'm basically the opposite—being special feels, well, special to me. At least in this story, I find myself strongly identifying with the main character, in a kind of escapist way. And if you asked me whether I'd like to be an alicorn instead of just an earth pony, of course I'd like to, even just to be able to do (and explore) more. Same goes for if I'd like to be able to chat up the Princesses rather than being an ordinary citizen. I'm also crushing hard on the princesses and the idea of serving Equestria 🫡 — part of it is altruism, and part of it is admittedly a more "selfish" desire to feel warm fuzzies and to feel important.
Because being the only non-royal alicorn means many people might conflate the two and assume we have some kind of authority, which we don't. So should we just not worry, or should we at least keep our head down of able to prevent angry diplomatic mail?
As for making good use of our alicornhood… the most natural way is by being the best explorer possible, as Trailblazer was thinking in 2023-08-07. The monologue mostly covers the value in experiencing things for ourselves, but I also think a huge part of exploration is making things accessible and known to others.
Celestia, Luna, and Cadance govern directly, and Twilight no doubt has her role in things, so it seems serving as a pillar of the state is quite common for alicorns, eventually? Maybe diplomat Trailblazer is in the cards for the future 🤔.
I'm still thinking about what command I'll submit. I think we covered the most important things we came here for, but I keep wishing to find a reason to tarry here with Luna. Time with one of the royal sisters is so rare and poignant 🥹.
platonic, of course) nuzzle, but maybe that's a reach.I didn't think to ask, but I wonder if we're known as an alicorn by the public, or at least the rumor mill? Or if Celestia has a different plan than just "let everypony find out there's a new alicorn on their own I guess", as we're already known around Hoofington/Ponyville. OOC, the QM probably doesn't want it to complicate things too much, so is making it so we can mostly ignore it, at least in our home turf. In retrospect, I'm kind of more on board with hiding our wings with the cloak until it's "officially" announced somehow, but I wouldn't be too torn up if we become publicly known either.
We don't know if the Kirin have an emperor, though "Kirin Empire" at minimum implies the existence of a state. If they do (correctly?) treat us as diplomats, and we openly come as an alicorn, I feel like there's a chance they'll be flattered that Equestria deemed them important enough to send a prince to liaise with them, even if it was happenstance. Though if they ask, we'd probably freely tell them we're not technically Equestrian royalty (yet?)/not on the same level as Celestia/Luna/Cadance (rather than lying by omission), even if we are a "prince" and we are there as Equestrian agents.
I think our best bet is to find the unicorn who brought us to the orphange. Moondancer mentioned that we may be able to track him down via magic with the help of somepony who remembers him. There's a chance our former matron does indeed remember him, which is why I think we should eventually pay her a visit.
Albeit "before the founding of Equestria" is still a pretty long time period. There may have been plenty of plitter groups, which would make it hard to figure out which one could have formed our Clan. Assuming said Clan would even be mentioned in the records. And as the doctor himself said, this is just a "conjecture based on the incomplete information we currently have". So we probably would need to spent a long time digging through information. That's why I still think learning more about the grizzled Unicorn is the best course of action to uncover our past, right now.
I think there are some reasonable reasons to simply finish up here, no?
