Out of curiosity, you ask Princess Luna how she learned to use her own powers.
Luna: "My powers? As I recall, I was but a filly when my teacher and good friend Star Swirl first taught me how to move the moon and stars in the night sky. My ability to enter the dream realm came to me later, as a gift, along with my cutie mark."
You tell the princess that you have only recently learned the basics of spellcasting from your own friend, Crystal Charm. However, you were wondering whether you should seek further guidance from an alicorn in order to learn how to use alicorn magic.
Luna: "I do not believe there is anything an alicorn can teach you that a unicorn cannot. But tell me, are you yet capable of levitating objects with your horn?"
You nod, and say that you can.
Luna: "Then you already know how to use alicorn magic."
You pause to consider this, then ask if it truly is that simple.
Luna: "It is. You are an alicorn. Thus, you possess alicorn magic. When you cast a spell, you are using this very same magic to do so. It may be more potent than a unicorn's magic, and you may have the ability to cast spells they cannot, but you still must dedicate the time to learn these spells all the same."
Which is why Twilight Sparkle suggested you start with simple unicorn spells, you reason. With that in mind, you cannot help but wonder what Princess Celestia must have had the time to learn about magic in over a thousand years. Princess Luna smiles in response.
Luna: "My sister was ever more studious than I, but even now after my return, her every day is busier than one may realize. She knows much and more about a great many things when it comes to ruling Equestria, but I am afraid neither of us ever surpassed our old teacher when it comes to magic."
Honourshine: "... To be fair, Star Swirl the Bearded is the most powerful unicorn wizard in all of Equestrian history..."
The princess nods in agreement.
Luna: "Perhaps he is."
Speaking of history, a thought creeps into your mind, and you decide to ask whether all alicorns live for so long. Princess Luna shakes her head.
Luna: "No, child. Alicorns are not unlike other ponies in that regard. My sister and I differ, not because we are alicorns, but because we are the guardians of the sun and moon."
You admit that you feel somewhat relieved to hear this. You are still an ordinary pony, after all. And with enough luck, you hope, a horn and a pair of wings won't have you mistaken for otherwise.
Luna: "That will depend on the reputation you make for yourself, Trailblazer."

and totally not flirtynuzzle for everything she does. After that, we should thank Luna for making time for us (during the day, no less). Then, we should pick up a newspaper and get on the next train to Fillydelphia if we want to arrive there early enough to do some snooping.
I think we've learned most of what we came here for. I wouldn't object to another round of questions, but I'd feel bad about taking up too much of Luna's time with gradually more minor questions (and delaying the rest of our adventure!). Keep in mind we'll arrive in Fillydelphia at 6 pm at this rate, and we should leave some time to track down Dirt's old band (though I suspect they'd be the type to keep late hours).
There is some stuff we could do if we want to tarry more in Canterlot, but these are all really optional.
- Shopping (for a hat)
- Visiting Lacuna (we got no special tokens this time though, but I love her character and it'd be nice to see her)
- Visiting Dawn Break's cafe (though I'd leave this to when we return triumphantly with a fresh story to tell)
I also would like to buy a newspaper for the train, to keep up with the latest news.
Regarding immortality, well, you can't win 'em all. Whether Twilight is immortal has been thoroughly discussed elsewhere already. RIP to both of us (eventually). Deranged crackshipping: This gives more urgency if we want to see what an alicorn power couple can do. We are two of the friendliest ponies in Equestria after all. And could we make alicorn foals? Perhaps it'd be worth a try. 😘
Luna is right… the secret to being truly ordinary is to never do anything exceptional. Or to cover it up somehow (like Daring Do/A.K. Yearling).
I so want to put in a "flirt with Luna" command. But it just seems out of character, even for us. And it could always go badly. On the other hoof, Trailblazer knows how to make it subtle (like 2016-03-04).
And that close-up of Blazer in the coat makes him look really stylish. He should wear cloaks more often.
As Shining and Cadance have shown, one Alicorn parent is enough for an Alicorn to be born. And I'm not sure if Twilight likes Blazer enough to have a foal with him. We don't even know if she wants to have children in the first place.
There were plenty of “Flirt with Celestia” commands last time we met her. So not as out of character as you may think. ^^
Oh good point… I wonder if it's guaranteed/alicornhood is a dominant gene, or if it's probabilistic. Or if it's a one-off, which would make sense if Flurry Heart is the princess of parent-child love (therefore it makes sense for her to be born an alicorn; after all, it's not by virtue of anything they've done that a parent loves their child). I guess there's not necessarily a reason to assume two alicorn parents would make a super-alicorn right now.
Yeah fair enough, I'm definitely getting ahead of myself; it's more of an idle fantasy right now. Motherhood would certainly take time away from books. And we probably wouldn't be the best father unless we give up on traveling for a time (given that children seem to benefit from a stable environment, i.e. being in one place, with reliable access to caretakers). (RIP Scootaloo's parents.)
....you should probably pick up a book on pathfinding spells before you embark.
Pretty sure he's the Prince of Seduction.
Joking aside, Twilight is the Princess of Friendship not magic. So it's not necessarily the special talent.
